Eibar slipped to a 2-0 defeat against a more effective Cologne outfit in the sides' pre-season friendly staged in the Austrian town of Kitzbühel.

From an Eibar perspective, the big negative to come out of the game were the injuries to Gonzalo Escalante, Rubén Peña and Kike García, which forced all three players to come off. Of particular concern was the injury to Escalante, who hobbled off after having taken a blow to his left ankle. Whilst the extent of the injury is not yet known, the player was at least able to leave the pitch on foot.

The opening stages saw Eibar put their German opponents under intense pressure, preventing them from getting into their rhythm. The Armeros however lacked the cutting edge to pose any sort of threat themselves.

Following the injury to Escalante and with Peña struggling after having taken a knock to the hip at the start of the match, Eibar's game became somewhat disjointed and Cologne begin to assert their authority.

On the stroke of half-time, the referee pointed to the spot after a challenge by Alejandro Gálvez on Yuya Osako and Filip Mladenovic stepped up to slot home the spot-kick and put his side into the ascendancy.

José Luis Mendilibar's men upped things after the break and got on top, with the Armeros carving out several chances, which they ultimately failed to convert.

In the final minutes and with Eibar pouring forward, the Germans looked menacing on the counter-attack. In the 79th-minute, Dominic Maroh nodded home a corner to make it 2-0 and round off the scoring for the night.
